The return of Jelly!

I defiantly have a amusing job!. Not only do I create websites, I also do the graphic design for the institute. So when Victoria our register came to me and wanted to see “Mr Jelly” I happily obliged.

Mr Jelly man
Mr Jelly

If you’re a member of global training institute you may have seen this icon on the members area site.  He usually indicates a users profile or “edit a profile”. When creating the new site I can’t be that “out there” and change every aspect of the website. Sometimes you need to incorporate the old with the new. So…

Mr Jelly man icon
New Mr Jelly

Meet Mr Jelly jr. He is our new Jelly man icon and will grace the website with that jelly style you may have been use to. Again Mr jelly had to be very easy to the eye but allow the user to “remember” what that icon means.

So in finishing I leave you with the question.

What icons would you want to see if I asked “change your password” , :change your settings” and “resources”

Hello All Another update on the new UI of our website.

design of new course layout

design of new course layout

After sitting down in a office to discus the direction for the next six months we brought the issue of “Answering the questions people want answered”. We came up with a number of idea’s. The new update of the GTI site has user functionality and ease at mind. This includes easer navigation, better call to action and layout and lastly making it easy for people to find what they are looking for.

Today I have been working on a idea of a course template for the website to make it easy to find what your looking for.

Mockup of new course layout

Above is the mockup. It will be very simple and the main things like “price” and “important info” will be up the top and prerequisite’s, trainer bio and other things down the bottom.

What do you think of the design? does it look easy to use? easy to find what your looking for? We would love to hear what your thoughts, questions and ideas are. email me at anthonyv@globaltraining.edu.au

lively version of the course template

*update*

I added a bit of life to the page so you can see for yourself the simplicity of the page with content in it.

Global Training and Social Media

Our new layout with connect with us social media

Our new layout with connect with us social media

Is it a necessary in this day and age for all company’s to be social media Savy?

Here at Global Training this is a question we found we had to ask ourselves. As a IT developer for the company I supported Social media 100% and the huge opportunities it could create for our students and visitors.

Not only is Social media great to socialise with students but it allows us to

  • Keep up with the changes of technology
  • Provide better costumer support
  • learn the interactions our students make through the systems
  • And the updates we can give to our students.

Not everyone may have noticed this, but on the bottom of your emails you receive from Global Training there are our social media links.

Hi Everyone,

Happy Easter from all at Global Training.

Wow the first three months of 2012 have definitely flown – full of action and excitement for our members – from workplace dramas for our Papua New Guinea Members, to flooding for all our Condobolin and Northern New South Wales clients, babies being born, operations, weddings , new positions, promotions – life is full – Well done for fitting your studies into your busy lives.  Keep focused and you will get there!

What can be at the end of your qualifications?  Well, I’m glad you asked.

We have recently had some very exciting calls from members and recent graduates who have new promotions (one of the guys phoned with an “Anne, I have a $20,000+ promotion for me if I can get my qualification completed ASAP- what do I still need to do?” – needless to say that his last couple of assignments and evidence came in very quickly)

Congratulations to Henery one of our Advanced Diploma Members, who phoned so excited about his new job where he could determine his roster, workload and came with a $50,000+ pay rise from his previous role.  Henery attributes much of getting his new job to having gained his formal qualifications.  His interview also went really well because his RPL and assignments had forced him to think through all his experience and knowledge, and could easily relate it to the interview questions.

I also had the delight of being rejected.  We were looking for a new trainer, so I phoned one of our graduates from last year to offer him the position.  He informed me that his new role (which he got as a result of completing his qualifications) was great – high pay, good conditions, happy in the work and that there was no way I could prize him out of it to work with us.

So in my quest to find a new Trainer to help Shane out, who did I find…

We would like you all to welcome Rob Stone to your team of Trainers.  Rob is a civil engineer who has a wealth of international project management experience.  He has roads, subdivision, building, construction experience in South Africa and the Middle East.  He has recently been the Senior Project Manager for a $1.2 Billion dollar project in Abu Dhabi.

Rob enjoys Project management so much that is a member of the Project Management Institute and is studying his Masters in Project Management through a Sydney College. Rob has completed his Trainer and Assessor qualifications recently so he knows  – what you are going through – fitting in both work and study at the same time.

Although only fairly recently arriving in Australia, Rob is loving living here and is really enjoying getting out and about with Shane, visiting you on job sites, in your workplaces or chatting over the phone.  So if you are  lucky enough to work with Rob, ask him heaps of questions, learn from his experience and of course teach him how we do things here is Australia and help him out with his accent.

Graduation Dates: July 21 and November 17

Next graduations are on the Sunshine Coast in July and November. Your invitation for July is attached.

Venues are booked, and RSVP’s are open – Register now on the members page www.globaltraining.edu.au/members

What do you need to do to be part of it – Finish your Qualification!!!  Shane and I pay for the afternoon, so its free to you – just get your assignments and evidence in.

Sara has just returned home after her 12 months with YWAM (Youth with a mission) visiting and working in orphanages and with street women in America, Germany, Thailand and other countries.  She says to say hi to you all and asks about you.   She is going to finish her International Business degree.

Shane, I and the rest of the team are all here and ready willing and able to help you complete your qualifications.

Easter Message

As you enjoy your Easter weekend, please take time to consider the real reason and meaning behind Easter. Jesus Christ is God’s son and he died on a Cross and rose again – for you – so that you can have a relationship with God and have access to heaven and an eternal life.  Easter gives meaning and purpose for our lives.  If you ever wish to discuss what this can mean for you, then give Shane a call.

Give us a call to book appointments and we are looking forward to helping you complete your qualifications.  See you at Graduation!

Talk soon,

Anne.

UI updates and progress for June 2012

Global Training is looking to make changes to our website in June. These changes will consist of a very simple interface making it easy for anyone to navigate our site. We have taken striped down the site and took the main things a user clicks on the most.1. Contact page. 2. login 3. student support 4. shopping cart and profile.

new--members

We also have designed a much more friendlier interface by making the site less scrollable. searchable and simple.

Even the main page has been redeveloped to make it easier to navigate. login and search.

This is not a final design and there is still allot being done to make this even better for users and visitors of Global

Internet Explorer

hello all,

Today I’m speaking purely to those who use Internet explorer when the access our website. Internet explorer is Microsoft internet browser. Some items on our website don’t work using this browser for a number of reasons. Our IT team are not the only ones! Many Websites will try and avoid internet explorer because of it’s horrible support for some website functions. One of the main reasons Global Training chooses a different browser is the fact that IE has a problem with allowing our users to login. I don’t want to bore you with Jargon but we are working on fixing issues that IE has caused. In the meantime Down the bottom of every page on our websites you will see a icon:

This icon allows you to download either chrome or Firefox. These options both will allow you to surf the internet safer, faster and works with our website allot better than Internet explorer.  If you would like to find out more please don’t hesitate to ring the office and we can guide you through the process of changing to one of these browsers. Lastly I have included this table from our analytics page to show you the popularity of browsers on our site.

Internet explorer comes on top with 41% and Google chrome with 27% . We are watching this very close. Internet explorer has decreased 10% from the start of the year and we expect Chrome users to increase by 10% at the end of this year. Let’s hope!

Anthony Out!
